The SEED – How it all began
SEED created a program designed to uplift self, through PRAYER, creating awareness about the environment by PLANTING trees using ARTS at schools in disadvantaged communities around Gauteng.
The SEED (School Educational and Environmental Development) Thru Arts was founded by Jamela John Ross Vuma (aka J Ross) and Megan Erasmus in March 2019. Their backgrounds involving both Music and Dance creation have combined expertise and have formed a vehicle that assists in positive youth development.
To date the SEED has activated 29 schools reaching over 17 000 learners in Primary and Secondary Schools. The SEED Thru Arts has grown in members and directors and this has helped impact the lives of our South African youth at a faster rate.
Environmental Aspect
SEED has partnered with Gauteng Department of Agriculture in Rural Development (GDARD) and donated unlimited indigenous and fruit trees to all schools involved. At each school 5- 10 trees were planted with the learners.
The SEED encourages the learners to take care of their environment and in return take care of themselves. “As we nurture the tree and surroundings, so too must we nurture ourselves!”

The SEED Thru Arts Program Co- founder J Ross with his 2 latest music singles conducts the entire program. He addresses issues of self-nurturing by exposing his past experience with drugs and alcohol.
He articulates on the importance of the environment and how to take care of surroundings and self. Co – founder Megan gets involved by teaching the kids choreography to one of J Ross’s singles called ‘Akekho”. Thereafter the learners and the SEED team plant the physical trees together.
